HOT Apprenticeships ends year on a high with ‘Good’ Ofsted outcome

The Apprenticeships team at Halifax Opportunities Trust celebrates ongoing improvement with new Ofsted rating

Halifax, West Yorkshire (19.12.2023): Calderdale-based charity, Halifax Opportunities Trust (HOT), is celebrating its continuous improvement with a ‘Good’ Ofsted outcome that highlights the quality of its Apprenticeship offer, unlocking further development and partnership opportunities.

The report highlighted that Tutors and employers set high expectations for apprentices’ professional behaviours, attitudes, attendance and punctuality, and create calm, positive and respectful learning environments. As a result, apprentices enjoy and take pride in their learning and work. This approach to learning has been an ongoing consideration for the HOT Apprenticeships team, who were last inspected in 2021.

Malgorzata Ciewiertnia, Apprenticeships, Quality & Systems Lead at Halifax Opportunities Trust, comments:The new ‘Good’ rating for HOT Apprenticeships is something we’re incredibly proud of. We are dedicated to quality delivery across everything we do, and through continuous improvements and hard work we’ve managed to enhance the provision to achieve an Ofsted rating that reflects this.

“Being a ‘Good’ training provider means we can work with more employers and create opportunities for learners across the borough with a range of career paths, in early years and education.”

Unlocking Opportunities

The HOT Apprenticeship service has refreshed its offer for learners over the past 12 months, as part of a wider improvement plan for its courses, delivery and training, as well as building stronger relationships with employers throughout Calderdale and Kirklees.  The ‘Good’ outcome from its most recent Ofsted inspection, which took place in November 2023, is testament to the hard work and progress made since their last visit.

In 2023, the Apprenticeships team celebrated an 88% pass-rate and supported over 40 learners to achieve qualifications. With a range of qualifications to suit learners at any stage of their career, the HOT Apprenticeships team is well-equipped to deliver high-quality on the job training for people of all ages, from 16 onwards.

Malgorzata Ciewiertnia, Apprenticeships, Quality & Systems Lead at Halifax Opportunities Trust, adds: “The HOT Apprenticeships team are all from a training, education or early years background and have built strong relationships with local organisations to understand recruitment and workforce development needs. This means that we are able to work with apprentices to understand their aspirations and help them along the way with qualifications that benefit their career progression, while they gain skills and behaviours that match those of their employer organisations.

Future plans

Through the ‘Good’ rating, HOT Apprenticeships is able to work with more businesses to both deliver apprenticeships and provide funded training through levy transfers; giving learners better access to work-based training and further employment prospects throughout Calderdale and Kirklees.
